Development of a rapid method for the detection of salmonellae
Within the scope of the present research project, a rapid test procedure is to be developed which allows the user to make a quick decision with regard to Salmonella-contaminated food. The aim is to develop a rapid test procedure for the detection of Salmonella in food.
An essential step in our project is the development of an automated and miniaturized system for sample preparation and coupling with a sensitive detection system.
The time needed today to analyze food for microbial contamination is unacceptably long for many customers. It is several days and the result often cannot be waited until the goods are delivered. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the time to detect Salmonella; most of the processing time falls on the pre-enrichment and cultivation of the microbes. This project aims to reduce the pre-enrichment time from up to 24 hours today to less than 4 hours.
